Software Engineer
Web editing – HTML5, Open Source
Location: INRIA Grenoble Rhône-Alpes, Montbonnot-Saint-Martin site (near Grenoble, France).
Context
INRIA is a research institute dedicated to fundamental and applied research in information and communication science and technology. 3800 persons are working in its research centers located in seven regions in France.
The Grenoble - Rhône-Alpes research center hosts about 640 people distributed in 30 research teams and support groups.
The WAM team focuses on multimedia contents and applications on the web. Its main topics of interest are models and formats for multimedia documents, processing of XML data and documents, and methods and tools for editing web multimedia contents.
In cooperation with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) the WAM team has developed Amaya, an open source editor for creating, publishing and sharing complex web pages.
Job description
You will participate in the development of Amaya. In particular you will work on the implementation of HTML5. You will also extend the existing features for editing 2D graphics (SVG), mathematical expressions (MathML), and style sheets (CSS).
Your main activity will be programming (developing new features and maintaining existing code). You will participate in the main design choices. You will also be involved in animating the community of users and contributors. You will work with other researchers and engineers involved in this project.
Experience and skills
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent (must be obtained in 2009 or 2010)
- Working knowledge in software development and associated tools (version control, compilation, documentation, testing, debugging, ...)
- Excellent coding skills in C and C++ , OpenGL would be a plus
- Strong technical background in web technologies: HTML, XML, CSS, HTTP
- Fluent in English
- Well organized and strong team player
- Strong interest for open source software
More information
Duration: 12 months contract, extensible to 24 months, starting between September and December 2010
Gross salary: 2.500 € / month
